Wine Imports, Ltd. :: Wineries :: Prince de Merode
| Prince Florent de Merode was a nobleman living in the Chateau de Serrigny, purchased by his ancestors in the 1700s. He married the sister of Comte Alexandre de Lur-Saluces (Chateau Yquem) in 1954. He died mid 2008.
In 1996 Didier Dubois took over the mangement of the vineyards and cellar. He minimized the use of chemicals and reduced yields to improve the health of the vines. The new winery can now control the temperatures during fermentation, greatly increasing the quality and finess of the wines. The wines are more reflective of their terroirs and are balanced and elegant.
The Clos de la Platiere Pommard is from a large 3.73 ha monopole that is partially Premier Cru and partially village wines. The Clos du Roi Corton has gotten consistent high ratings since 2001 from both Clive Coates and Allen Meadows. |
